On the tour in Vrhnika, you'll learn about the lives of the locals and the life of Ivan Cankar, a writer of great importance to Slovenian literature. You'll also visit his memorial house (interior tour) and the railway museum, where virtual reality glasses will take you on a historical journey through the region. The tour is led by a guide who speaks Spanish and English.
Vrhnika is a small but fascinating town located just 20 kilometers from Ljubljana. A place that, as the great Slovenian writer Ivan Cankar wrote, doesn't reveal itself to those who simply pass by, but to those who observe it attentively and with an open heart.
Vrhnika is primarily known as the birthplace of Ivan Cankar, the most important writer in Slovenian literature, but its history extends far beyond that. During this approximately two-hour guided tour, we will discover together the city's main cultural, historical, and natural treasures.

We'll stroll through the historic center, discovering buildings that have witnessed daily life, commerce, and justice for centuries. We'll follow in Ivan Cankar's footsteps, visiting the places that shaped his childhood and youth, and understand why Vrhnika holds such a special place in his literary work.
The visit will also take us to the nature surrounding the city, to Močilnik, one of the sources of the Ljubljanica River, a mysterious river known as "the river of seven names", shrouded in legends that transport us even to the time of the Greek heroes.
In Močilnik, we will also visit the Devil's Rocks (Hudičeve skale), which, according to legend, stopped the Greek hero Jason and his Argonauts on their voyage to the Aegean Sea. Jason, enraged, struck the rock with his fist, and the mark of his blow can still be seen today in Močilnik.
In remembrance of that era of ancient Greek culture and the voyage of the Argonauts, the coat of arms of the municipality of Vrhnika includes the image of the Argo.
This tour is an invitation to see Vrhnika not only with your eyes, but also with your imagination and sensitivity, to discover a town small in size, yet rich in history, memory, and charm.

Vrhnika Time Station
The Vrhnika Time Station offers an innovative experience that combines history, technology, and discovery. Located in a former railway building, this space invites us on a unique journey through time, from prehistory to the 20th century.
One of the museum's main attractions is the virtual reality experience, which allows visitors to immerse themselves in different historical periods and understand how transportation developed in the Vrhnika region. Through immersive images and interactive narration, visitors can experience key moments such as life in prehistoric times, the importance of trade routes, and the arrival of the railway, which profoundly transformed the region.
The permanent exhibition is dedicated to the history of transport and the railway in Vrhnika, a strategic point on the ancient routes connecting the interior of Europe with the Adriatic Sea. Informative panels, historical artifacts, and reconstructions help visitors understand the fundamental role the railway played in the city's economic and social development.
The museum also offers a fun and interactive experience: visitors can test their knowledge with a fun and educational quiz, ideal for both adults and children. One of the most special spaces is the recreation of the stationmaster's office, where the carefully reconstructed atmosphere transports us to the golden age of the railway and allows us to imagine daily life in a station at the beginning of the 20th century.
The virtual reality experience and quiz are available in Slovenian and English, making the museum accessible and appealing to international visitors as well.
The Vrhnika Virtual Railway Museum is not just a museum, but a truly immersive experience that connects past and present, perfectly complementing a cultural and historical visit to the city.
